Common sense media and OpenAI will encourage families to utilize AI safely.
OpenAI, a US-based AI research organization, was founded in 2015 to develop safe and beneficial artificial general intelligence. It has developed large language models, advanced image generation models, and open-source models, including ChatGPT. The organization consists of the non-profit OpenAI, Inc. and its for-profit subsidiary OpenAI Global, LLC. Microsoft provided OpenAI Global with $1 billion in 2019 and $10 billion in 2023, with a significant portion of the investment in computational resources on Microsoft’s Azure cloud service.
OpenAI has partnered with the organization Common Sense Media to teach families about safe AI use. At the Common Sense Summit for America’s Kids and Families, representatives from both organizations broke the news live on stage.
OpenAI and Common Sense want to enable parents, teachers, and teenagers to use AI tools safely and responsibly.
AI guidelines and age-appropriate instructional materials are among the first projects in the works. Furthermore, using its knowledge of rated material and technology for children, Common Sense will compile a list of family-friendly AI apps on OpenAI’s new GPT Store.
“With the help of Common Sense, we can further strengthen our safety work and ensure that families and teens can use our tools. AI offers tremendous benefits for families and teens.”
